Alabama Lawyer is Crowned Mrs. America

Wednesday October 13, 2004
Julie Love Templeton of Tuscaloosa, Ala. is "Mrs. America" 2005. Now in its 28th consecutive year, the "Mrs. America" Organization has evolved into a full year-round lifestyle brand. It is a unique and contemporary "lifestyle brand" that symbolizes the family unit - an extravaganza focusing on the most extraordinary married women of America.

"Mrs. America" is a microcosm of the 65-million married women of America, and has a national reach to each of the 50 states plus the District of Columbia.

New "Mrs. America" is Julie Templeton, a 30-yr. old attorney from Alabama. She was born November 18, 1973 as the youngest child of Huel and Betty Love of Talladega, Alabama. Mr. Love was in the middle of a trial and her mother had been arguing a case before the Alabama Supreme Court shortly before her arrival. Julie is the youngest of ten (10) children and her mother has often joked that her love of law was learned through osmosis.

Julie received her high school education from Coosa Valley Academy in Harpersville, Alabama where she developed a love for painting while studying art under artist Randall Baker. She is a 1991 graduate of Coosa Valley Academy.

As a 1996 graduate of the University of Alabama where she studied theatre and English, Julie participated in numerous theatrical productions and still works with Theatre Tuscaloosa today as her schedule permits. Most recently she appeared in their production of To Kill A Mockingbird.

She received her Juris Doctor degree from Cumberland School of Law on the Samford University campus in 1999. While at Cumberland she served on the Student Bar Association, as a Street Law volunteer and a member of the Trial Advocacy Board. She was on the Dean's list and received the Hubert W. Peterson Trial Advocacy Scholarship.

In 1999 she began the practice of law with her parents, the late Huel M. Love and Betty C. Love. She has also practiced with two brothers and a sister at the family firm Love, Love & Love P.C. in Talladega, Alabama. In 2001 Julie returned to Tuscaloosa and today has her own firm Julie L. Love P.C.

She's a member of the Pilot Club International, Girl Scouts of America, American Trial Lawyers Association and the Alabama and Mississippi State Bar Associations. As a volunteer she devotes time to the Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program, the March of Dimes and International Motorsports Hall of Fame. In addition, Julie founded a non profit organization called "Clara's Closet" which is designed to provide lower income women with work appropriate clothing and accessories.

Julie is married to Shawn Templeton, an engineer at RH Smith and Associates in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They have been married 15 months and have no children. Among Julie's other activities are painting, teaching aerobics, singing, reading, water and snow skiing. She also collects Marilyn Monroe memorabilia.

Alabama residents aren't new to pageants. In 2000, Stacie Willis of Huntsville was crowned Mrs. America. Earlier this year, Miss Alabama was crowned the 2005 Miss America.
