Symphony presents Cowboy Yarns: a Family Concert with Wild West Theme

Tuesday February 21, 2006
Families will discover an afternoon of musical fun as The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra presents its first family concert on Saturday, February 26, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. in the VBC Concert Hall. In this one-hour concert, Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto and the musicians of the HSO will perform marvelous music that tells stories of the Wild West. Audience members of all ages are welcome to dress in western wear. Lobby activities before and after the concert will add to the cowboy spirit. The concert is sponsored by the Mruz Family Foundation.

Carlos Miguel Prieto knows how to make kids crazy about classical music and is well-known for his high energy concerts for young people and families. This entertaining one-hour concert includes John Williams' Cowboy Overture, Copland's Rodeo, Pops Hoedown by Richard Hayman, “On the Trail,” from Grand Canyon Suite by Ferde Grofe, and the finale of Rossini's William Tell Overture, known as the theme from “The Lone Ranger.”

Lobby activities before and after the concert include face painting, photo and autograph opportunities, Young People's Concert Art Contest display, live performances by Huntsville Youth Orchestra ensembles and the popular “Instrument Petting Zoo,” provided courtesy of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild. From drums to stringed instruments, children can enjoy the hands-on experience of playing real instruments. Lobby activities are from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Seating is general admission. Ticket prices are $7 for students, $10 for adults and $21 for a family package of three admissions. Group rates and other family packages are available. Tickets may be purchased by phone at 539-4818, in person at the HSO Offices and online at www.hso.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door beginning at 12:30 p.m.
