Huntsville Nightlife May 11-18, 2006
Thursday May 11, 2006
I'm happy to announce a new side of About Huntsville: a new column written about Huntsville's Nightlife, written by "Buckaroo Bob," a young musician. He'll keep us informed on what's going out there in Huntsville after dark. (photo: Dixie Duo
playing at Judge Craters). Here's Buckaroo Bob's picks for May 11th through May 18th:Friday, May 12th
Humphrey’s
Washington Street, Downtown
256-704-5555
Freeworld
Starts around 9pm
Good jam/rock band for a Friday night at Humprhey’s back porch. If it’s nice outside, it’ll be a great environment. Congrats to everybody that’s graduating. That should add a little spice to the party.
Saturday, May 13th
The Flying Monkey Arts Center
The old Lowe Mill, 2211 Seminole Road
Crash. Boom. Bang!
Two Shows – 7pm and 10pm
BYOB
Their advertisements always say for “Mature Audiences Only.” Don’t let that throw you off. It has more to do with a mature mind than nudity. Well, nudity should never be ruled out. Crash. Boom. Bang! Is a theater troupe that’s very open-minded about the happenings of today. Most of the sketches were pretty well executed the last time I saw them. Good lights and interlude music, too.

A third show for the weekend for anybody who couldn’t make it Saturday night.

The Dixie Duo
10pm – till the last person is rocked.
Sometimes a ménage trois, sometimes the classic duo, even a foursome during lunar eclipses. Here’s what one person had to say about the duo:
“In a city filled with acoustic cover bands it's hard for one to really stand out. Tired of hearing "Freebird" segued into "Brown-Eyed Girl" followed by "Margaritaville." The Dixie Duo has distanced themself from the pack by choosing songs that might have hung on to the bottom of the Top 40, but keep you singing along nonetheless. Their musical fare can best be described as funky, "white boy blues" meets pop rock in a time capsule...if that makes any sense. The Duo, comprised of Alex Dietrich and Colin Brooks, exploit their eclectic musical tastes to bring in the best of several different musical genres while adding a flare to them that is all their own. There is a little something for everyone in a veritable smorgasbord of verse; they even throw in some originals if the crowd is willing.”
Go on down to Craters on Wednesday for some good tunes, good people, reasonably priced drinks, and cool bartenders.
