Rocket City Motorcycle Rally to Benefit UCP
Get your motors running and head out to John Hunt Park for the Rocket City Motorcycle Rally for United Cerebral Palsy. This first-time event will take place May 19-21, 2006 in Huntsville’s own John Hunt Park, next to Joe Davis Stadium. The Rally will feature one stage with performances by local and regional musical acts, food vendors, retail vendors, a Saturday poker run, great prizes, and the best bikes around! Motorcycle enthusiasts won’t want to miss all the retail vendors that will be on hand selling everything from leather goods to motorcycles. Additionally, there will be limited edition t-shirts and event pins available to commemorate this inaugural event. A large list of motorcycle items and apparel will also be given away in drawings throughout the event. But the weekend highlight is sure to be the drawing for the 2005 Saxon Chopper from Chopper Alley. There are only 1500 tickets available for a $20.00 donation.
Music lovers will want to check out the talented local and regional acts that will perform Friday and Saturday. The music festivities end on a high note as the Saturday night headliners take the stage. The performance of the Capricorn Rhythm Section, which features Scott Boyer, Tommy Talton, Bill Stewart, Paul Hornsby, and Johnny Sandlin, is one performance you won’t want to miss! With a collective discography of over 100 records, the members of the Capricorn Rhythm Section have had their hands in the production of some of the most popular artists of the past few decades, including the Allman Brothers, the Charlie Daniels Band, and Widespread Panic. After years of pursuing their individual careers, Scott Boyer, Tommy Talton, Bill Stewart, Pail Hornsby, and Johnny Sandlin have joined together to play some of the classic music they helped to create and even some new music of their own.
Bonnie Bramlett will appear as a special guest with the Capricorn Rhythm Section. She has written, recorded, toured, and performed with the best of the best. With the release of her new album, “I’m Still the Same,” Bramlett is preparing to reclaim a spotlight for herself. Critics have remarked that she is “the greatest white female R&B voice to emerge from rock music,” and continues to transcend music styles to this very day. Bramlett and her husband stormed the charts, in the early 70’s, with hit singles such as “Soul Shake,” “Only You Know & I Know,” and “Never Ending Song Of Love” to mention a few. Bramlett and her husband, Delaney, shared stages, recording studios, and all night music jam sessions with such legendary contemporaries as Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, George Harrison, Dave Mason, Gram Parsons, and John Lennon.

The rally was fun, as well as the poker run. The turnout was low, but not bad for a first annual. Does anyone know who the winner of the Saxon chopper was?
