Promiment Huntsville Doctor Brutally Murdered in 1992

Wednesday June 7, 2006
Former Huntsville resident, Betty Wilson, was recently married while in prison. In case you weren't around Huntsville in 1992, here's the story of the notorious trial of the wife of a popular Huntsville doctor. Dr. Jack Wilson, a prominent Huntsville doctor, was found brutally murdered, apparently with a baseball bat that was found lying nearby.

I understand that a man asked James White for a certain model of car and he said he could not get that car, but Dr. Wilson had a nice car. I understood the person to state that White told him he did not think the Dr. was home at the time. White supposedly told him the Dr. attacked him with something and that is what he beat the Dr. with. He fled and threw his bloody clothes in a dumpster near a hotel. Naturely, he did not steal the car.

Did Betty ever find out about this witness that came forward and was on TV news ? He was defending her.

I saw James White had released a letter stating what happened, that his mind was not clear during the murder, and that now he was a Christian. The letter is published and on the net. He said that he was not in good shape, has mental problems, and the police repeated over and over what they wanted him to say.

White said interrogators kept at it for hours. He said he fell asleep in the chair and they woke him up. He said in order to get rest, he just started telling them what they wanted to hear and this is why his story kept changing plus his mental disorder and substance abuse mixed with medication.

White stated in the letter that Betty had nothing to do with the murder.

I was of the opinion from TV news that another man confessed that White was supposed to deliver him a car and White described the car to him. It was Jack Wilson’s. This makes sense.

I see a lot of gaps in the story. Were there signs of packing for the trip? If the marriage was that bad, why would Dr. Wilson go away with his wife ?

I have a lot of questions besides those and on different subjects.

Being the one who recently came forward about Whites role in the murder of Dr. Wilson I would like to see Justice done in this case and Betty Wilson given a chance to prove she is Innocent of this murder.

Living through this whole situation has been a nightmare. I was only 5 at the time, 18 now, and I still miss my grandmother more than ever.

When I was younger, the constant reminding of the story on TV and newspapers caused me to be scared. I remember staying up all night crying from just being scared of dying. I wouldn’t want to goto school in the fear that I might die.

I talk to my grandmother as much as I can. We write letters back and fourth, and she expresses her love for me. I haven’t seen her since mothers day of last year though.

At that time, I got to meet her new husband, if you lived anywhere near Huntsville, the news and newspapers had plenty to say about this. He seemed like an extremly kind gentleman who cared very much for my grandmother.

What saddens me the most, is that right here we have a statement by James White that says clear as day that he had NEVER met my grandmother, NEVER spoken to her, and that she DID NOT hire him. I think i speak for everyone when I say that the Alabama Government screwed this whole thing over. They just wanted to get it over with, and they didn’t care how they did it.

Please share this with as many people as you can. Its an amazing article, and it can change what MANY people think of my grandmother.

(5) Jessica says:

I saw this trial on a rerun of City Confidential and being a criminal justice major, I do not see how Bety Wilson was found guilty. The little evidence they supposedly had was very circumstantial, and I feel this woman was punished because of the way she lived and not because she was actually guilty. This is the same method that was used to acquit her sister. Everyone felt she was a good, moral person so they found her not guilty. I guess if Betty Wilson did not have affairs then she would have probably been acquitted also. Bottom line, there was too much reasonable doubt that she did this thing. James White even said he never met her, so how could she meet him at the mall, and after the murder, take him back to his truck? We in the South are portrayed to the rest of the contry as being “slow on the uptake” and this jury just proved it true.

(7) Mae says:

If you had lived in this town and saw the way Betty treated Jack Wilson (acted like a witch); and the way she drank and ran around and spent large sums of money; if you loved Jack Wilson the way we all did; if you had seen one of the many fits she would throw after barging into the doctor’s office unannouced; if you had been one of his patients for over 30 years like I was, you too would have found her guilty. She was a horrible woman. I believe she did it — for his money.

I read the book, “Two by Two”. The author thought Betty was not guilty, but after finishing the book I’m really not sure. There were lots of questions still unanswered. One thing – the trial was not fair, unless the author left something out.

Why doesn’t some law school have their students pick apart this case and find out what really happened? It’s been done before to free innocent people.

Just what is White’s stance on the murder in 2008? He’s changed his account so many times already, just what are we to believe? I understand even Wilson’s children aren’t convinced of her innocence.

It’s been almost 2 1/2 years since I last commented.

It’s pathetic to read what Mae had written.

So you were a patient of my grandfathers? Did you spend time in the house with the family? Do you know what went on behind closed doors? Did you know that Jack openly admitted to KNOWING of the affair, and had forgiven her? No she did not do it because of money. She was accused because of people like YOU who looked at the situation LIKE YOU. She and her sister Peggy were charged with the EXACT SAME crimes, and the EXACT SAME evidence was used against them. The only difference was my grandmother was a rich spoiled bitch as someone like you would say, while Peggy worked as a teacher, went to church everyday, and lived the perfect southern Baptist life. Tell me now which one you think would get off free in the WONDERFUL state of Alabama.

Thank you for the other replies. I write my grandmother as often as possible and trust me when I say that she loves hearing about all the support and words of encouragement.

Again,
Alan Taylor.

Why were Dr. Wilson’s ex-wife and sons not called to testify? It seems like some of them had bad relationships with Dr. Wilson. Therefore, the defense could have questioned them before the jury to take some of the focus off of Betty. Just wondering why they were absent from the trial.

She states she once desired to be an artist. I think more an “actress”! Betty Davis or Joan Crawford come to mind. My mom & I both were Dr. Wilson’s patients and I observed her actions in his office about a month prior to his murder. When it happened, I told my sister, his wife did it. She hated that man! Yes, she would have made a great actress!
