I learned a lot of interesting things about Huntsville this week: (1) Things are really "hopping" at the Huntsville Botanical Garden: Did you know that you can now get Yoga (Mon. & Wed.) or Tai Chi (Tues. & Thurs.) at 7 a.m. on the grass in front of Teledyne Terrace. The Stroller Club meets on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. on the back deck behind the tea room. I have a pet stroller for my cat--wonder if I can come? (2) If you have kids ages 8 and up, you might be interested in this: Instuctor Sean White with Todd Burns School of Baseball has openings for individual lessons plus several camps and clinics on Fundamentals this summer. Call for details: Contact Sean at (256) 653-1834.

(3) Don't miss the Concert in the Park Benefit in Arab this Saturday, June 17 from 1-4 p.m. with Mark Cornelius and Glenn Luna of the group "Little Wings" performing playing classic rock. The Arab Animal Control Shelter will host two dog contests also, one for "best dressed" dog and one for "crowd favorite." The concert is to benefit the building fund for a new animal shelter in Arab.

(4) A new company called Plan Perfect: Party Planning by Angela is offering planning services free of charge for the rest of June. If you have receptions, bar mitzvahs, birthdays, theme parties, surprise parties, retirement parties, etc. in your future, give Angela a call at (256) 682-9793.

(5) If you're needing some help hauling away yard debris or garbage, you might want to call Don for help. He has a 10' dump trailer for hire in and around Huntsville. Fees determined by size of load and distance to dump. Call (256) 457-3364 for more info.

(6) Alabama’s first alligator hunting season is August 18-24, 2006 in a defined area of Mobile and Baldwin counties. Unregulated alligator harvest throughout the South in the 1920s, 30s and 40s threatened the species with extinction. In 1938, Alabama took action and became the first state to protect them. This year, however, fifty hunters will be permitted to hunt them in a random drawing. Registration opens today, June 15, and ends August 7, 2006. See you later, alligators! ...
