Wanted: "Women Honoring Women" Nominations

The WEDC Foundation (Women's Economic Development Council) is now accepting nominations for its 5th Annual “Women Honoring Women” Awards. The six awards will recognize women who have excelled in their fields of expertise and in their efforts to help others to improve their quality of life. Nominations for women to be honored are due by Saturday, July 1, 2006.

The nominees will be judged on their achievement of success despite obstacles, exceptional professional and/or civic contributions, contribution to the community and a proactive willingness to help other women help themselves.

Six awards will be given in the following categories: Arts and Humanities, Community and Public Service, Health and Human Services, Business and Professional, Education, and Technology. Honorees from 2005 were:

Education - Dr. Donna Reed, UAH
Health and Human Services- Debbie Chandler, Hospice Family Care
Business and Professional – Jan Hess, Teledyne Brown
Arts and Humanities – Sallie Barnett, Women’s Guild Huntsville Museum of Art
Technology – Bobby Bradley, SAIC
Community and Public Service – Linda Green, Colonial Bank

The winners will be announced at the Women Honoring Women Celebration on Thursday, September 28, 2006, at 6:00 p.m. at the Von Braun Civic Center – North Hall. The keynote speaker at the event will be Ping Fu, Chairman and CEO of GeoMagic, Inc. and the 2005 Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur of the Year.

This event is the primary fundraiser for the WEDC Foundation with Crestwood Medical Center as the presenting sponsor. The WEDC Foundation was established in 1998 as a non-profit, charitable organization to provide educational, financial and mentoring support for women who are trying to improve their lives. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $90,000 in grants to women in Madison County.
