Here's what I learned recently in Huntsville: (1) After shedding almost 100 pounds, Ruben Studdard, a Birmingham native and 2003 American Idol winner, announced that he wants to help other Alabamians lose weight. Studdard is asking the 25 percent of Alabamians who are obese to lose ten pounds in eight weeks--a statewide total of ten million pounds. The eight-week weight loss campaign is called Scale Back Alabama and will run from January through March. For more info, contact Jon Lolley at Huntsville Hospital or call (256) 714-6388.

(2) Steak 'n Shake is coming to Huntsville in March 2007. It will be located in front of Madison Square Mall almost directly across University Drive from Best Buy.

(3) Don't miss "The Magic School Bus" exhibit. It will be leaving Sci-Quest on January 14th. It will probably be a long time before it comes within driving distance of Huntsville again.

(4) Don't forget to enter the new 2007 Cutest Baby Contest. We have a new voting system now that only always one vote per computer. Here's the entries from 2006.

(5) If you want your club, church or organization's event included in the January calendar, you need to get it to me ASAP. I prefer to have items at least a month in advance...so I'm accepting February events now, but will add a few January events if I get them by Jan. 5th.
