This summer’s event will feature a gourmet dinner, music, live and silent auctions, and an honoree reception. Auction items include fabulous jewelry, dinner for 8 prepared by Martina McBride’s personal chef, trip to Firestone Vineyards of Santa Barbara, California, special packages for Alabama and Auburn football games, variety of special dinners, and an amazing playhouse that will bring joy to any little one.
“This year’s gala is going to be a great event. We have so many special items in both the live and silent auctions. Many of the items are one-of-a-kind. But the most special part of the evening will be when we pay tribute to this year’s honorees, Gerald Tucker and Meg Ingram,” said Debra Wymer, event chair.

2007 A Summer Lights Celebration Gala Honorees
A two time cancer survivor… melanoma (Clark’s level IV) in 1999 and colon cancer in 2002…the American Cancer Society proudly honors Gerald G. Tucker at this year’s event. “I know we have to win this cancer fight, and the sooner the better,” says Gerald. Having received wonderful and cutting edge medical care, amazing support from his family and friends, and prayers and support from “literally hundreds of people,” he is now determined to put in some “sweat equity” for the cause. Gerald joined the American Cancer Society Madison County Board of Directors in 2005 and has been very active with the organization… chairing the 2006 ACS Madison County Golf Tournament and promoting the importance of early detection and prevention.
Gerald retired from the Army Aviation and Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in 2004, where he served in a number of logistics support, acquisition and information technology civilian leadership positions throughout Team Redstone, notably managing the Patriot Project’s Emergency Operations Center during the first Gulf War. Gerald was serving as the AMCOM Commanding General’s personal representative to industry as Ombudsman when he retired. Gerald also served over 30 years in the US Army Reserves, retiring as a Colonel in 2002 from the 87th Division (TS) with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. Gerald now works for SAIC in the Bill Gurley Business Unit, continuing active support to Team Redstone programs.
The American Cancer Society will proudly honor 20 year old cancer survivor Meg Ingram at this year’s event. Diagnosed with brain cancer in August of last year, Meg Ingram instantly became a fighter…dealing with this disease at such a young age Meg was able to overcome this test in her life along with the love and support of friends and family. She also kept a positive attitude and outlook on the future along the way, says her dad Lance Ingram.
She continues to fight the disease…undergoing chemo treatments. While taking treatments in Birmingham, Meg and her family also stayed at the American Cancer Society’s Joe Lee Griffith Hope Lodge. The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge provides free accommodations to cancer patients and their families when they are receiving outpatient cancer treatment away from home.
A graduate of Huntsville High School, Meg is currently a junior at the University of Alabama where she is on full tuition academic scholarship. Meg has not declared a major, but plans to pursue nursing. Meg also loves to cheer. She is on the White Squad at Alabama and has been cheering at the university for two years now.
Meg is the daughter of Lance and HJ Ingram. She has one sister, Madalyn.
