Here's what I learned in Huntsville this week:
  • Got kids? Here's a different kind of fashion show. Mark your calendar for Sunday, Nov. 11th from 1-3 pm at Luciano's for the "Mamma Mia" fall fashion trunk show featuring maternity, nursing and children's apparent. Tickets are $25 (lunch included) and available at "A Nurturing Moment" on Airport Rd. All proceeds from the event will benefit The Melissa George Neonatal Fund. For more info, call (256) 489-2590.
  • Got the acting bug? Auditions for "Guys & Dolls" will be held at Ovation Performing Arts Center, 8006 Old Madison Pike, Suite 11-B in Madison on Nov. 2, 4 & 10. Email Michael Gimenez for exact times and other details.
  • Want help on becoming a homeowner? Then plan on attending the free Home Ownership Fair for lower income first time home buyers on Thursday, Nov. 8th from 3-7 pm in the Dept. of Rehabilitation Service Building at 3000 Johnson Rd. There is no charge to attend, or for any information provided to you, and you will not be offered anything to buy. For more info, call 551-1610, 533-2282 or 532-1677.
  • Congratulations to The Furniture Factory on their 6th Anniversary! In honor of the occasion, they'll have something special going on every day this week. Be sure to stop by for all the fun. For more info, call (256) 539-8001.
  • If you're a big "Dancing With the Stars" fan, like I am (go, Marie!), you might like this new fundraiser. HEALS, Inc. will hold it's first Dancin' with the Stars fundraiser, with seven locals "stars," on Tuesday, November 6th at 6 p.m. at Crossroads Café on Clinton Avenue. All proceeds from the event benefit HEALS in its mission to provide accessible, quality, primary healthcare for children and their families in Madison County. Votes are $1 each and can be mailed or called in ahead of time. For more info, visit the website or call Christine (426-4393) or Jessica (653-6001).
  • Junior Achievement of Northern Alabama, Inc. (JANA) invites you to “The Toast of Huntsville” on November 8 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Early Works Museum. This event features wine, martini and beer tastings, gourmet hors d'oeuvres, great music, auctions and a wonderful networking venue. All proceeds from The Toast of Huntsville will benefit JANA programs which will reach over 15,000 area students this school year (Madison, Jackson, Marshall and DeKalb Counties in Alabama and Lincoln County, Tennessee), helping them develop the life skills they need to be successful in the global economy. For more info, contact Nancy Haragan at (256) 533-4661.
  • Cafe Michael is now open in Interior Marketplace. Hours are 9:30 - 6:00 Monday - Thurs and 9:30 - 7:00 on Friday and Sat.
