Here's some things I learned in Huntsville this week:
Thousands of people in Huntsville have heard the Huntsville Police Dept.'s five-man singing quintet, The Blue Notes. Now you can get more info about their new CD, "Standing Up," by emailing Eric Newby at esnewbysr@yahoo.com or calling (256) 755-0754.
The Little Gym of Huntsville on Cecil Ashburn Road is opening in November. The Little GymŪ provides a foundation in non-competitive motor skill development programs, such as gymnastics, sports skills and karate, all taught in a fun, safe and nurturing environment. You can now sign up for a free trial class.
Williams-Sonoma is offering free technique classes for Thanksgiving dinner on Sundays & Mondays in November. Call the Huntsville store at (256) 534-2008 to reserve your spot or request menus for specific classes.
Look up--it's a bird, it's a plane...no, it's Venus! Thanks to Robert Schuffert for this alert: Venus will be in the eastern sky for the next few weeks. Saturn is just to the left of Venus, with the star Regulus just above the pair. Looking to the south, you'll see Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky. Venus is much brighter than Sirius right now. On Oct. 22nd, the three will make a vertical line, Venus on bottom, Saturn in the middle and Regulus above.
Gov. Bob Riley has declared October as Alabama Food Products Month, kicking off a new "Buy Alabama's Best" campaign. Alabama is home to many important and nationally recognized food industries: Golden Flake, Barber's, Red Diamond, ALAGA, Milo's Sweet Tea, Wickles Pickles and Sister Schubert's, are just a few.
The Tennessee Valley Civil War Round Table will have a used book sale on Saturday, November 3, 2007, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, in the Auditorium of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, for the benefit of the Heritage Room Archives and Civil War Battlefield Preservation activities.
