Here's some things I learned in Huntsville this week:
Junior Achievement of Northern Alabama (JANA) is looking for businesses to host job positions for Groundhog Job Shadow Day (Feb. 14, 21 or 28). This one-day event allows 10th, 11th and 12th grade students to explore careers by “shadowing” someone who works in a career field of their interest. Career people needed include Architects, Attorneys, Sports Medicine, Marketing, Interior Design, Graphic Artists, Journalists, Dentists, Ophthalmologists, Chefs, Real Estate Agents, and Engineers. For more info, call (256) 533-4661.
January has been declared National Figure Skating Month by U.S. Figure Skating to increase awareness and participation in ice skating sports. Point Mallard Ice Complex will provide one free group lesson and skating exhibition on Monday, January 21st (Martin Luther King Day) from 11:00 a.m. – Noon; and on Saturday, January 26th, from 1:00 -2:30 p.m. Saturday’s class will also include a demonstration on how the Zamboni ice resurfacer works.
Here's an elegant event to check out: The Women’s Guild of the Huntsville Museum of Art will present the 37th annual Winter Wine Event to benefit the Museum. The Wine Tasting will be held at the Museum, Thursday, January 24, 6:30 – 9:00. The Wine Dinner will begin at the Museum, Friday, January 25, at 6:30. For more information, call 535-4350, ext. 208.
It's not too early to be thinking of Valentine's Day. 801 Franklin is going all out this year with a Valentine's Ball. They will have a heated tent outside, fantastic music, a dance floor, gorgeous flowers, superb service, amazing food....what could be more romantic? Make your reservations now by calling (256) 519-8019.
Tom Perrin launched Rocketman Home Inspections in 2007 as a service to home buyers and home sellers. If you need peace of mind before your next real estate transaction, call Tom at (256) 682-9081.
After nearly 4 years of renovations, Lake Guntersville State Park Lodge has reopened to the public. Now that spring is right around the corner, be sure to check out this close-to-home treasure.
