Space City Goes Prehistoric...

Huntsville is know for the Space & Rocket Center, Space Camp and the Saturn V and all other things connected with the future. Whenever Huntsville looks to the past, it's usually no further back than the Civil War. However, thanks to the Huntsville Botanical Garden , Huntsville is going way back...all the way back to prehistoric times when they bring the Dinosaur UpRoar, presented by TOC and Redstone Federal Credit Union, to the Garden from March 15th through July 15th 2008. This unique exhibit features over 20 life-sized dinosaur models in a display throughout the Garden. The exhibition consists of more than 30 pieces including real fossilized plants and bones, a 30 foot tall Allosaurus, a 20 foot Astrodon, a 4 foot long Arthropleura (a giant centipede), a 30 foot long Parasaurolophus, and much more.

Plantings based on pre-historic plant species will surround the giant creatures, making them look at home in North Alabama. Children’s activities, adult and children’s education programs, guided tours, and various social events will all be part of the Dinosaur UpRoar celebration. There will be no additional charge to attend the Dinosaur UpRoar at the Garden. Regular garden admission will apply – members and children under 3 are free, adults - $10, military and seniors (55+) - $8 and children ages 3 to 18 - $5.

This traveling display is designed and created by paleontologist and artist Guy Darrough and his associates at Lost World Studios in Arnold, Missouri. These life-sized models have appeared at gardens throughout the country, including Powell Gardens in Kansas City, Missouri, Naples Botanical Gardens in Naples, Florida, McKee Botanical Garden in Vero Beach, Florida, and Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
