Huntsville Insider Info

Friday March 21, 2008
Here's what I learned in Huntsville this week:
  • if your child was born in 2006 and spent time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Huntsville Hospital, you are invited to the preemie reunion party, Saturday, April 5th, from ten to noon, at Trinity United Methodist Church on Airport Rd in Huntsville. For more info, call (256)265-8077.
  • Cantina Laredo, serving authentic Mexican dishes served in a sophisticated atmosphere, opens in Bridge Street Tuesday, March 25th. The menu features daily fish specials, grilled chicken and steaks complimented by signature sauces such as chipotle-wine with portobello mushrooms or sauteéd artichoke hearts and roasted red bell peppers. This is the first Cantina Laredo restaurant in Alabama.
  • Saturday, March 22nd is Operation Clean Sweep for the Huntsville Stars. They are looking for volunteers to help clean the stadium from the 4th floor down to street level at 9:00 am. Bring work gloves, brooms, and rakes. The concession company Sodexo, will be cooking hot dogs and providing drinks. You will be provided with a dollar value of tickets based on the time volunteered. For more info, call Brian Massey at (256) 882-2562 or email brianmassey@huntsvillestars.com with the number of volunteers that will be joining you.
  • This weekend is nonstop fun at the Botanical Garden. Friday, as part of the Dinosaur UpRoar, they are hosting the Southeastern Raptor Center from Auburn University for two shows - 11 am and noon. Then on Saturday, they are featuring a members event - Bunny Bonanza. Don't miss it!
  • What to spend Easter Lunch in style? Then check out Bridge Street's Dolce Restaurant. Serving starts at 12 noon. Monaco Pictures, Heavenly Spa and all Bridge Street restaurants will be open Sunday, March 23rd for Easter Sunday. However, Bridge Street Town Centre stores will be closed.
  • Looking for some fun? Then go to the Jazz Factory on Tuesday, March 25th from 6-8 p.m. for the Huntsville Alive! Birthday Blowout, complete with appetizers, cake, champagne and live music by Microwave Dave. Cost is $10. For more info, email info@huntsvillealive.com.
  • I had a birthday this week (won't say which one!) and so did Pauli's Bar & Grill. They opened March 19, 1998 with 35 seats in the dining room and 10 seats at the bar. They have expanded over the last 9 years to seat 125 in the dining room and 24 in the bar area. Congratulations & Happy Birthday!
  • It's spring break...got relatives visiting? Join The Land Trust of Huntsville and geocacher Jamie Burns on Saturday, March 22, at 10 am at the Land Trust Bankhead parking lot for a "Geocache Treasure Hunt" on the Monte Sano Preserve. Wear long pants and shoes with good tread. Hike will be cancelled in case of rain. For reservations, call 534-LAND (5263). Hike is free, but donations accepted. Get out there & have some fun!
  • Burritt on the Mountain is celebrating Easter this Saturday, March 22nd at 10:30 am with an Easter Bonnet Contest, an Easter egg hunt, and a wonderful Easter Pawrade full of Burritt’s Barnyard Buddies. Bring your own bonnet, that you have personally styled, and enter the contest. For more info, call (256) 536-2882.
