Huntsville Insider Info...

Friday April 4, 2008
This is what I learned in Huntsville this week:
  • Chef Green's on Fountain recently closed. The new owners open it as The Phoenix Bistro on April 3rd. They are open for lunch & dinner Tuesday through Saturday. For more info, call (256) 534-1962.
  • If anyone knows what happened to Backyard Burgers, please let me know. I've had several emails about it.
  • The Beat Goes On" for the Symphony Guild's 2008 Crescen-Dough Auction, set for Friday, April 18, at the VBC. Check out the hundreds of items available for bid at www.crescendoughauction.org. Advance reservations are required; call the Symphony Office at (256) 539-4818 for more information.
  • I recently ate lunch at Cantina Laredo in Bridge Street. It was wonderful. I had the grilled salmon. All their food is fresh with the finest ingredients. I think I just found my new favorite restaurant in Huntsville!
  • Christy Webb has opened a unique store at 804 Wellman Ave. in the Five Points area of town. Sexy Shoes in the City features designer shoes, purses and clothing at a discount. Christy is currently accepting high quality items on consignment. For more information, call (256) 489-STEP (7837).
  • Mellissa Meeks' new studio at 508 Andrew Jackson Way, called "Rather Be Painting!," features paintings, drawings and murals. Mellissa also has adult & children painting workshops and birthday parties...I probably should take one since I "hated" art class in school. There will be an open house on Saturday, April 5th from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. For more info, call (256) 797-1785.

    (1) Walter Jones says:

Hello there. I am the former owner of the Back Yard Burgers. The reason we closed is that our costs to occupy the property were just too high.

In 2007 our rent and utilities alone were over 200,000.00

We were doing good volume, but with the high occupancy costs and high food costs we just couldn’t hang on anymore.

Obviously there are always things we wish we could go back and do differently though…..I miss the burgers too!

So I am doing real estate now. I am a Realtor with RE/MAX of Huntsville. Visit my website and drop me a line if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

    Walter Jones
