Huntsville Weekend Weather

Thursday May 1, 2008
Last week, I was impressed with a forecast I saw on James Payton's weather blog regarding the Panoply and the chance of rain. He proved to be right on--rain on Sunday only. I asked James to start sending me a weather report and some trivia each week and here's his first forecast and a short introduction:

I'm a lifelong weather enthuiast from Warner Robins, GA. After living 14 years there & 17 in South Carolina, I moved to Huntsville in August of 2006 to pursue a degree in Atmospheric Sciences at UAH. Along with that I'm also a Skywatcher for ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, an advanced Skywarn storm spotter for the National Weather Service, & run my own weather blog at uahweather.blogspot.com .

When not watching the weather I enjoy spending time with my wife of 14 years Tonia & my five year old son Spencer.

I'd like to thank the team at about.com for bringing me on board to provide our readers with an accurate & dependable forecast for all of your Tennessee Valley weekend activities.

And here is my weather forecast...

A cold front will bring the chance of rain & perhaps a few strong thunderstorms by Friday evening. The rain will taper off by Saturday afternoon...setting the stage for what will be a near-perfect Sunday...the better of the two weekend days for outdoor activities.

My official Tennessee Valley weekend forecast...

For Friday...Partly cloudy & windy. Chance of a few showers by late afternoon. High 81.
Friday Night...Windy with rain & a few thurnderstorms. Storms could be strong late. Low 65.
Saturday...Showers & storms through early afternoon. Some storms strong early. Some clearing by late afternoon. High 73.
Saturday Night...Clear. Low around 45.
Sunday...Sunny & pleasant...a near 10! High 72.

Weather trivia question for the week...How large does a hailstone in a thunderstorm need to be for the storm to be classified as "severe"? The answer will appear in next week's newsletter...

a. 1/2 inch in diameter
b. 3/4 inch in diameter
c. 1 inch in diameter
d. any thunderstorm that produces hail is severe

Have a great weekend everyone!
