Huntsville Insider Info

Thursday June 19, 2008
Here's what I learned in Huntsville this week:
  • I don't know if this is good or not, but Google maps has added Huntsville to its growing list of cities with the street view feature. It's fascinating...but is it an invasion of privacy? It's kind of spooky to see my house online!
  • The largest 4th of July firework’s show in Huntsville’s history will be at Bridge Street this year. From June 20th – June 29th there will be special July 4th Ebay Auctions from Bridge Street merchants and vendors with 100% of these auctions benefiting Exchange Club of Greater Huntsville. Your participation will help the community and maybe let you snag a bargain!
  • All you outdoorsy-people, mark your calendar for this: Join Huntsville Alive! on June 28th for a 5-mile hike in the scenic Walls of Jericho. This is a relatively strenuous hike. For more info, call James at (256) 656-0087.
  • Ole Hickory BBQ is celebrating their first birthday for the north Parkway location and are offering free banana pudding with any purchase, at either location, to celebrate. Stop in and wish them "happy birthday"!
  • Are you ready for some good theatre? Ovation Arts is presenting the musical, Godspell, the last two weekends of June. Godspell incorporates lively music and dance into the retelling of many parts of the Gospels, mostly from the book of Matthew. Tickets are reserved, and may be purchased by calling (256) 468-1632 or 468-1633.
  • Twice Upon A Time Upscale Consignment Boutique is celebrating their first anniversary this week. Different events will be going on each day with Friday allocating a portion of their proceeds to support the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation. There will be prizes, food, and fun for everyone. For more info, call (256) 532-0250.
  • This Saturday June 21st the Huntsville Swing Dance Society and the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra will be hosting a free combined swing dance/big band performance at Bridge Street Town Centre from 6 to 8 pm in front of the Monaco Theatre.
  • Mark your calendars for this: The Madison Community Band, along with the combined choirs of Capshaw Baptist Church and University Baptist Church, will present an evening of patriotic music on June 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Capshaw Baptist Church (14944 Dupree-Worthy Road Harvest, AL). The free concert will feature a special performance by Abraham Lincoln, played by a regional impersonator, who will deliver some of his most famous words. For more information, call Capshaw Baptist Church at (256) 232-7763.
  • Here's a project that needs your support: there's a benefit performance of Theatre Randolph’s The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds” on Friday, June 20, at 7:35 pm at Huntsville High School Theatre. Tickets are $15 for Adults, $10 for Seniors and Students. All ticket proceeds will be used to defray festival expenses.
  • Sci-Quest is providing a "Parents' Night Out" this Friday, June 20th from 6-9 pm. Reservations are due by June 19th. Cost is $15 for the first child, $10 for each additional child, 4-12 years only. For more info, call (256) 837-0606.
