Huntsville Insider Info

Thursday August 7, 2008
Here's some things I learned about Huntsville this week:
  • I was really sorry to hear about the plane crash at Moontown Airport. Ricky Weldon, operator of Rinet Air Service at the air strip off U.S. 72, was flying the three-seater. His passenger was Stan Summerlin, co-owner of The MAiZE, a cornfield that's been turned into a popular maze every Halloween since 2003. I had met Stan several times while covering activities at the Maize. I'm sure he was probably looking at this year's cornfield design from the air and maybe taking photos of it. He will be missed.
  • Masterpiece in the Making is the Capital Campaign for the Huntsville Museum of Art, and has an $11 million goal. To help meet this goal, you have an opportunity to purchase a personalized engraved brick (for $150) to be set in beautiful Big Spring International Park. For more information, call Guest Services at (256) 535-4350.
  • If you want something different to do, how about learning how to dance SALSA, one of the most popular Latin dances in the world. Now you can learn SALSA in one day, August 16 from 1:30-5:30 pm at Kinesthetic Cue Dance Club, 8006 Old Madison Pike Rd., Madison. This beginner salsa boot camp is for the absolute beginner.
