Huntsville's Weekend Weather & Trivia...by James Payton

Wednesday August 13, 2008
On the weather map...High pressure will begin to build back in for the weekend. An area of low pressure to our west may get close enough to trigger a brief shower or storm on Saturday or Sunday...so we'll include that in the forecast. However most neighborhoods will remain dry. Temperatures will finally begin to warm back to near normal conditions for mid-August with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 through the weekend.

Here's my official Tennessee Valley weekend forecast...
For Friday...Partly cloudy. High 87.
Friday night...Fair skies. Low 65.
Saturday...Partly cloudy. 1 in 5 chance of an afternoon shower or storm. High 88.
Saturday night...Partly cloudy. Low 68.
Sunday...Partly cloudy. 1 in 5 chance of an afternoon storm. High 89.

Last week's weather trivia question...How many name lists does the National Hurricane Center use for naming tropical systems in the Atlantic Ocean? The answer was B. 6 lists. The National Hurricane Center rotates six different name lists & uses a different list each year. The names already used this year will appear again in 2014...unless it is determined that a storm name should be "retired".

This week's weather trivia question...Whan happens if the National Hurricane Center uses up all of the names on the list in one year and more names are needed to finish the season?

A. The same list is re-started at "A"
B. They start at letter "A" on next year's list
C. They start with the greek alphabet
D. They switch from letters and use numbers starting with "1"

Answer will appear next week.

Have a great weekend everyone!
