Here's some things I learned about Huntsville this week:

The Republican Women of Huntsville will present "Shooting For the Stars" Fall Fashion Show & Luncheon with guest speaker, Former Astronaut Dr. Jan Davis, on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 from 11 am - 1 pm at the Huntsville Marriott, 5 Tranquility Base. The Huntsville Skating School & Training Academy and The Skate Club of Huntsville will present the Christmas Show "Nutcracker On Ice" on December 12,13, & 14th. Anyone who is enrolled with the HSSTA prior to August 27 may submit an application to audition for roles. Email HSSTA@iceskate.org to receive a copy of the "Nutcracker On Ice" application or call (256) 883-3773 for more information.

Huntsville's local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training will be serving up fine food and wine in an elegant and upbeat atmosphere - the newly opened Olde Towne Brewery, Alabama's only microbrewery. For a $65 donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, you can enjoy a gourmet 3 course meal, fine wine and the opportunity to bid on many fantastic silent auction items on Sept. 4 at 6 pm. If you like good country music, then come celebrate Jeff Cook Day! Jeff Cook, former vocalist, lead guitarist and fiddle extraordinaire for the super group Alabama, is scheduled to perform with his band the Allstar Goodtime Band, Saturday, August 16th at 7:00 p.m. at Guntersville Civitan Park in Guntersville, Alabama.
On August 17th and 24th (both Sundays) area songwriters and musicians will perform at Coffee Tree Books & Brew beginning at 1:00 pm.
