Huntsville Insider Info

Friday September 5, 2008
Things I learned this week in Huntsville:
  • I got a note from Burritt on the Mountain this week. Seems that at the last City Lights & Stars concert, someone left them a little present: "A beautiful black & white male (neutered) cat found us at the last City Lights Concert (Aug 22). We don’t know if someone dropped him off, or lost him here, or if he wandered on site. We are keeping him in the office, he is about a year or so old, well groomed, well mannered, quite a conversationalist and a meeter/greeter to everyone who enters the office." For more info, call (256) 512-0142.
  • Here's a new group you might want to check out: The next meeting of the Gentle Evolution is this Sunday, Sept. 7th at 5:30 at Monte Sano State Park at the picnic shelter. Its a potluck, so bring a dish to share. Call Lynn Leach at (256) 776-0553 or Rosemary Urban (256) 539-3508 for more information.
  • Café Michael has started Deli Service. Now you can enjoy a selection of deli sandwiches and daily soup specials, available for dining in or carrying out. Deli Meats are cooked fresh in-house and are also available by the pound. Side items, salads, beverages and desserts are available too!. Pick up a tantalizing lunch or carry home a light and easy dinner!. For more info, call (256) 564-7007.
  • Congratulations to the Huntsville Stars: Third baseman Mat Gamel and shortstop Alcides Escobar were selected as the co-recipients of the Milwaukee Brewers Minor League Player of the Year and pitcher Jeremy Jeffress was named the Minor League Pitcher of the Year,
  • The Republican Women of Huntsville will present "Shooting For the Stars" Fall Fashion Show & Luncheon with guest speaker, Former Astronaut Dr. Jan Davis, on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 from 11 am - 1 pm at the Huntsville Marriott, 5 Tranquility Base. Fashions by Coldwater Creek. For tickets ($30 donation) and reservations, call (256) 270-0025.
  • The Better Business Bureau system is warning sports, music, and theater fans who are trying to get their hands on the hottest event tickets that they might get burned when shopping online with TicketsMyWay.com. While TicketsMyWay.com might claim that they guarantee to beat any broker's price, customer complaints and the terms and conditions on the Web site reveal a less-than-stellar dedication to customer service.
  • In this holly month of Ramadan; The Huntsville Islamic centre community share their support and prayers to the hurricane victims. The observance of Ramadan reminds us that our country is an impressive mosaic of faiths and creeds, and that America’s religious tolerance and diversity is one of our nation’s greatest strengths. Our tradition of religious freedom allows for the free exercise of all faiths and the observance of Ramadan offers all of us a chance to deepen their understanding of the remarkable traditions of Islam. Huntsville Islamic center would like to invite our larger community at every Saturday and Sunday of the month of September for dinner after sunset, for RSVP please call Aladin Beshir at (256) 479-7221.

  • On a personal note, last week because of some continuing medical problems, I was not able to complete the newsletter. I didn't get the health scores up or the dog or the cat of the week. I apologize for that and hope that you will look at them this week. I now have last week's scores up and hope to have this week's up on the front page of the website later today or tomorrow. I appreciate you bearing with me at this difficult time.
