Here's what I learned in Huntsville this week:
Volunteer are needed for the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies this Saturday, October 11 at one of the following locations: Rocket Harley-Davidson, KC's Powersport, Huntsville Speedway, or Huntsville Dragway. Volunteer training will be October 10 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. If interested in volunteering at the event, please contact Alan Lesley at (256) 627-7175 or alesley@marchofdimes.com.
Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely joined officials from Alabama, Kentucky and Indiana and the U.S. Department of Energy to announce Interstate 65 as “America’s First Biofuels Corridor.” A guide to determine which vehicles are flex fuel may be found at www.e85fuel.com.
Junior Achievement's “Toast of Huntsville” event will take place on November 6 at Early Works Museum. Items in the live and silent auctions include furs, paintings, spa and restaurant gift certificates, college baskets with signed footballs, a Space Camp package, a sports jacket, jewelry, etc. plus wine, beer and martini tasting and gourmet hors d'oeuvres from Cyn Shea’s Complete Catering and great music by the Matt Gibbs Trio. The Huntsville Stars have schedule a fall full-day baseball camp on Saturday, November 8th, 2008, at Joe Davis Stadium. If interested in having your youth baseball/softball players attend this camp, email Babs Rogers at babs@huntsvillestars.com for a registration form.
The Huntsville Botanical Garden has some new Saturday programs for the kids: Hands-on America for Grades 2 - 4 on Saturday, October 18 and Gadget Maker for Grades 3-7 on Saturday, November 8. The public is invited to a free lecture on Friday, October the 17th at 7:00 P.M. in Room 200 of Morton Hall on the UAH campus. The Philosophy Department at UAH, with support from the Alabama Humanities Foundation, will feature a public lecture by Professor Michael Weisberg from the University of Pennsylvania on philosophical issues about the use of models in biology. Pauli's in Madison will no longer be open for lunch on Tuesday & Wednesday. Pauli's will remain open for lunch Thursday & Friday and Monday-Saturday in the evening.

There is a new Halloween specialty store opening at 11513 South Parkway in Huntsville. Halloween Town offers all sorts of tricks and treats for Halloween, from costumes and props to fun decor. Every Saturday in October at 8 pm, there will be free outdoor horror movie nights on their lawn as well as pumpkin carving and pet costume contest this month. For more info, call (256) 883-6747.
