Huntsville's Weekend Weather...by James Payton

Wednesday November 19, 2008
On the weather map...On the weather map...After a slight warm-up the middle of this week, another shot of cold Canadian air will invade the Tennessee Valley on Friday. The cold air will be around Friday & Saturday before another slight warm-up on Sunday. The good news is the weekend looks to be dry.

My official Tennessee Valley weekend forecast...

For Friday...Sunny & cool. High 48.
Friday Night...Clear. Low 28.
Saturday...Mostly sunny. High 51.
Saturday Night...Fair. Low around 30.
Sunday...Increasing clouds & slightly warmer. High 58.

Football forecast...

Alabama & Auburn are both off to get ready for next weekend's Iron Bowl matchup.

Alabama A&M at Mississippi Valley St. (2:00 pm CT - Itta Bena, Mississippi)...It will be partly cloudy with a kickoff temperature around 55 degrees dropping into the 40s by the fourth quarter.

Last week's weather trivia question...November 15th marks the anniversary of the F4 Airport Road tornado which occurred in 1989. On the day after the tragedy another unusual weather event happened less than 24 hours later. What was it? The answer was A. It snowed. Less than 20 hours after the tornado, the temperature in Huntsville dropped an amazing 50-60 degrees behind the front & Huntsville saw heavy snow squalls & bitter cold temperatures the following day. I posted a video on my blog before, during & after the tornado including footage of the snow. You can access the web address at the bottom of the weather report.

Thia week's trivia question...The highest wind gust ever recorded on Earth was at Mount Washington, NH on April 12, 1934. How high was the wind clocked at?

A. 163 mph
B. 189 mph
C. 208 mph
D. 231 mph

Have a great weekend everyone!
