Weekend & Spring Break Weather...by James Payton

Follow me on:

On the weather map...An old frontal boundary will stall & hang around just to our south...keeping the Tennessee Valley cool & wet for much of the upcoming weekend. A wave of low pressure will ride along the front Late Friday into Saturday...setting up some heavier rainfall across the area. Most areas will pick up between one & one & a half inches of rainfall over the weekend. The heavier rain will move to our east on Sunday...but still enough moisture will linger around for more showers on Sunday.

My official Tennessee Valley weekend forecast...
For Friday...Cloudy...a 50/50 chance of rain. High 51.
Friday Night...Rain likely...possibly heavy at times. Low 45.
Saturday...Rain likely...possibly heavy at times especially early in the day. High 56.
Saturday Night...Cloudy with rain tapering to just a few scattered showers. Low 46.
Sunday...Cloudy & warmer. A few showers about. High 61.

Many schools are out for spring break next week...Around he Tennessee Valley rain will linger into Monday before finally pulling out late. Tuesday through Friday look dry With highs mostly in the 60s & lows in the 40s. Pretty much the same expected on the Gulf Coast with temperatures running about 5-8 degrees warmer. If you;re headed east to the Smoky mountains or the beaches along the Florida, Georgia or Carolina coastlines the rain will likely hang around those areas through Tuesday with better weather expected Wednesday-Friday. No real cold weather expected & current model data is showing no severe thunderstorm activity expected.

Last week's trivia question...True or false...Huntsville has never seen low temperatures of less than 10 degrees in the month of March. The answer was false. We have dropped below 10 degrees twice...6 degrees on March 3, 1980...and 7 degrees on March 4, 1943.

This week's trivia question...On which day does Huntsville finally see the "average" high temperature increase to 70 degrees?

A. March 29
B. April 2
C. April 6
D. April 11

Have a great weekend everyone!
