Huntsville Insider Info
Wednesday November 4, 2009
Here's some things I learned in Huntsville this week:
- To honor those who serve their country, Applebee's is offering veterans and active military to eat free on Wednesday, Nov. 11th, Veterans Day. Simply show proof of service.
- Whether you approve of the wars we are in or not, it is our job as Americans to support the troops and in the process we can help to increase their morale by showing we care. Let's face it, your show of appreciation could very well save someone's son or daughter's life. So my question to you is will you do your part and wear RED on Fridays?
- Everyone's watching their budget these days. If you want to get a jump on holiday shopping, check out the Black Friday Ad site for information and coupons. Some stores are having pre-Black Friday sales this Saturday, Nov. 7th.
- Girls, gather your friends for this is spectacular: Emma's Tea Room is hosting their 3rd Annual Holiday Tea on Friday, November 28th from 2:00-4:00. Pre-paid reservations required. For more info, call (256) 489-5850.
- Celebrating 25 years of prayer for children and schools, Moms in Touch International is hosting an historic prayer event, inviting Christian women around the world to "Arise! Cry Out!" for the generations. Pre-register at www.MomsInTouch.org. It will be shown locally on Nov. 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in The New Room of Trinity United Methodist Church.
- The Huntsville Botanical Garden is hosting Perfect Holiday Foods with William Sonoma on Tuesday, November 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in The Arbor. Linda Mobley from William Sonoma will be here demonstrating recipes that will make you look like a gourmet chef at all your holiday festivities. For more info, call 430-3572 ext. 241.
- On Saturday, Nov. 21 The Rainsville Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Sand Mountain Dessert Bake Off along with a chili dinner and the Chamber's annual auction. Baking contest judging starts at 4:00 PM. Dessert sampling and the chili dinner starts at 5:00 PM, with the live auction at 6:00 PM. There will be a $100 cash prize for first place in each of three categories which will include "cakes," "pies" and "other desserts." For more info, call (256) 638-7800.
- Here's a new contest you might be interested in: you could win a $1,000 voucher for airline tickets to or from Huntsville International Airport. Check the Airport's website for details.
- This is some very good and welcome news: North Alabama Spay and Neuter Clinic, a Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic is set to open in February. For more info, call (256) 443-3661.
- Congratulation to Randolph High School junior Ashlyn Alongi, this year's Miss Teen Alabama USA.
- Donald Elser has written a thought-provoking play, "Balcony Scene," in which a young man is present at his own funeral where he must hear the comments of friends and his fiancé as they reflect on the life he lived...good and bad. See it Thursday, November 5 at 7:00 pm in the Butler High School Auditorium. Tickets are only $5. Purchase your tickets online at www.butlertheatre.org or at the door.
