Here's some things I learned in Huntsville this week:

- If you've got some time on your hands, you might find this site interesting: My Parents Were Awesome.
- You can view Coffee Tree Books & Brew's newsletter online to find out all the things going on there.
- Gov. Bob Riley is a strong supporter of Alabama's progress in creating a statewide trauma system. Seventy percent of the state is now covered by Alabama's trauma system. In 2007 the governor pointed out that this trauma system is very critical in reducing deaths and injuries in the "golden hour" after accidents and injuries occur.
- The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to City of Huntsville by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
- Starting Nov. 1 when you purchase a new membership at Sci-Quest for yourself or as a gift, you will be entered into a drawing for a $125 shopping spree at the Sci-Quest Science Shop. The winner will be announced and contacted on Dec. 19.
- If you love going to the Galaxy of Lights at the Botanical Garden, mark your calendar. Public Walking Nights are November 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24. This year, you can bring the family pooch to join in the holiday fun on Dog Walking Night on November 23. NEW for 2009 Walking Nights - SAMs - Synchronized Animated Musical displays! Enjoy each of our two new SAM displays as they "dance" to three different pre-programmed songs each. Driving Nights begin on Thanksgiving and run through January 2.
- For the month of November all cats and kittens from the Madison Animal Rescue Foundation are available at half off the usual adoption fee. See all MARF animals online.
