Here's some things I learned in Huntsville this week:
  • The City of Madison in conjunction with the local National Guard and Army Reserve is asking for your support to make this holiday season a happy one for soldiers and their families. Gifts and other expressions of gratitude will be collected at Madison City Hall on 100 Hughes Road from now until December 9th.
  • HandsOn Greater Huntsville wants you and your family to join us for Family Volunteer Day on Saturday, November 21, 2009. This special day provides local families with an opportunity to spend quality time together, teach important life skills to children, give back to the community, and motivate families to make volunteering a year-round habit. To sign up or for more info, call (256) 539-7797.
  • The December issue of Southern Living magazine has a special 8-page feature article on the historic town of Mooresville located close to Huntsville. It has retained the look of a 19th century village complete with historic homes and buildings, white picket fences and tree lined streets. Don't miss the free Mooresville Yuletide Tour on December 6th from 1-4 pm. For more information, call 256-355-2683 or 256-353-3628.
  • Does your pet do something ... odd? Are you a human with a hilarious, unique or just plain stupid special ability? Then audition to be a part of THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN! David Letterman Stupid Pet Tricks and Stupid Human Tricks Auditions Saturday, December 12 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in Grisham Pavillion at Huntsville Botanical Garden.
  • Halogen, a 5-man contemporary a capella Christian band, will be performing at a benefit concert at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 21, at 7:00 p.m. Afton Miller, daughter of one of the band members, is 21 months old, and just recently underwent surgery to remove her right kidney and a large tumor. The concert is free with all donations going to help the Miller family defray the costs of Afton's treatment and future care.
  • Sarah Palin will be at the Books-A-Million store in Brookwood Village in Birmingham on Nov. 23. The bookstore will begin distributing line numbers at noon on Nov. 22.
  • My cousin sent me this link for a good Christmas website with games, recipes, lots of fun holidays things for free. Mrs. Santa's kitchen is neat.
  • Time magazine has names NASA's Ares Rockets as The Best Invention of the Year. Congratulations, Huntsville, for your part in this invention!
  • ... Check last week's insider info to see items that might take place this week...
