Things I learned this week in Huntsville:
- The day after Thanksgiving, men may be thinking about football, but most women are thinking about shopping. Black Friday is considered to be the biggest shopping day of the year. Check out this website for ads and coupons.
- Here's the 2009 Black Friday Weekend Offers at Bridge Street Town Centre.
- Happy Thanksgiving! In keeping with the season, here are some free crosswords, trivia games, word search puzzles, memory games, jigsaw puzzles, children's puzzles and more with a Thanksgiving Day theme from About's Puzzles' guide.
- Bingo...or not to Bingo? Next Tuesday, Country Crossing, a Branson-style entertainment park which some hope will be an economic boon to Alabama's Wiregrass region, is set to open outside Dothan. It will have a 10,000-seat amphitheater, three restaurants, and the George Jones Possum Holler Bed and Breakfast. It will also have 1,700 electronic bingo machines...or will it?
- Members of the Redstone Model Railroad Club and Train Collectors Association, Cottonbelt Division will have displays of Model Trains for the Holidays at the Botanical Garden. Display is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sundays. Free with Garden Admission.
- The City of Madison announces that beginning on Monday, November 30th Brownsferry Road will be closed to through traffic between Wall Triana Hwy. and Balch Rd. This closure is necessary for a bridge replacement, which will take approximately 4 weeks.
- Xerox is currently sponsoring a service to send a free thank you card to soldiers who are currently serving overseas. Go to www.LetsSayThanks.com to pick out a design and add a personalized message. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services. This is a quick and easy way to thank our soldiers for all they do and to support our military.
- Kids are the only ones who get to see Santa...at Parkway Place mall there will be Paws 'n Claus Pet Photos with Santa on Tuesday, December 8 from 6-9 pm.
- Sci-Quest, Huntsville Museum of Art, Santa's Village, and Burritt on the Mountain are partnering for the first "Home for the Holidays in Huntsville" promotion. Visitall four attractions and be entered into a drawing for $1,000 cash.
