Chilly Play Days at Hays

Operation Green Team Presents Chilly Play Days at Hays at 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Hays Nature Preserve. Sessions are FREE and promise to be fun and educational as children, with an adult, explore and learn about the great outdoors.

December Schedule Wednesday, Dec 12 --- Your Special Path (Pre - 5th): This is a fun literacy-based nature experience developed by The Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation. We will read books about special paths and then take a short hike letting our senses go wild! As we explore Hays Nature Preserve children will draw maps of the sights that they have seen as it leads them to a hidden treasure.

Monday, Dec 17 & Wednesday, Dec 19 --- Water, Water, Save as Much as You Can! (Pre - 5th): Did you know that about 70% of the Earth's surface is water, but only about 3% of it is usable? Learn fun techniques of water conservation! We'll share how the new building at Hays Nature Preserve uses water wisely, examine how much water you use in a single day and analyze how you can use water wisely. January Schedule Saturday, Jan 5 --- Animal Signs (Pre-5th): Another fun literacy-based nature experience developed by The Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation. There are many species of animals that live in Hays Nature Preserve. Whether they walk, swim or fly, come have fun as we learn all about these amazing creatures. Compare footprints and see if you can match the animal to its print!

Monday, Jan 7 & Wednesday Jan 9 --- Many Forms of Water (Pre-5th): Water does so many amazing things. We will examine the many forms of water and its uses. Have you thought about what we would do without it? Have fun with us as we learn about all the amazing things water can do! We will also make winter sun catchers with one form of water. They are beautiful and help the wildlife around us. We will also make a seed angel at the Preserve.

Monday, Jan 14 & Wednesday, Jan 16 --- I See Sticks, I See Mud - Where is the Green? (Pre-5th): This time of year, everywhere you look you see sticks and mud. Where is the green? Find out and solve the mystery as you go on magic journey learning about how seasons change the world around us!

Wednesday, Jan 23 --- Chilly Day Hike (Pre-5th): We'll break out the hand warmers for this one - because you don't want to miss this hike! Come with us and explore the beautiful winter landscape of Hays Nature Preserve like you have never experienced it before. Who knows, maybe the adventure will end with Operation Green Team's world famous hot chocolate...

Monday, Jan 28 & Wednesday, Jan 30 --- What's the Buzz? (Pre-5th): It's winter and the bees are gone! Come find out what bees do during the winter months. If you miss hearing the bees buzz, we will make our own bee buzzers so you can make one of nature's most famous sounds by yourself!
