Aunt Eunice's Unwritten Rules

The food isn't bad either--better than in some restaurants.  I started to look at the menu--something the "regulars" at Aunt Eunice's don't have to do.  And, Aunt Eunice has a real printed menu with plastic-coating and everything!  Fancier than some places.  I started to scan the selections, but Aunt Eunice was right by my side offering suggestions......homemade biscuits with milk gravy......and I had to try the country ham with redeye gravy...and how did I want my eggs?  (I didn't know I was having eggs!)......I finally put my foot down when she mentioned grits and hash browns. (Be sure and take your appetite when you stop by Eunice's--you're going to need it.)  It's an unwritten, but well known, rule in Eunice's restaurant, that if you get up to get yourself a refill on coffee (hey, she's over 80 and can't do everything!), that you have to go around the room and refill everyone else's cup.  It doesn't matter if you're the mayor of Huntsville (ESPECIALLY if you're the mayor!) or the local dog catcher--all are expected to do their share.  No one ever said this woman wasn't shrewd.  Some politicians have regretted not going to Eunice's and getting their blessing from her and helping serve the food.  It's a given they'll never win in the voting booth if they don't serve their time at the restaurant.

She is the top single contributor to her favorite charity, the Arthritis Foundation.  Each year she opens her restaurant for a charity breakfast in October as a fundraiser.  This year it will be on two Tuesdays, October 3 and 17 from 6-11 am.  Cost is $15 per person and goes to the Arthritis Foundation.  She has local politicians running for the November election as guest waiters.  If you haven't been to Aunt Eunice's before, this would be a great opportunity to make her acquaintance and help a good cause in the process.  No advance ticket required--just stop in.  I guarantee you, if you go to Eunice's Restaurant once, you'll return again and again and become a "regular."  The food's not bad and the experience is unbelieveable!
