Huntsville: Picture Perfect--Part II
Bankhead, George Wallace, John F. Kennedy, Dwight Eisenhower, William McKinley, Werhner von Braun celebrating the rocket launch that put the first man on the moon, Saturn V astronauts being honored, and the German rocket scientists receiving their US citizenship. Buildings are in the photographs--buildings that have been destroyed. There are several pictures of the different courthouses that Huntsville has produced, many banks and churches--things still here and some gone forever; some just transformed and remodeled.
It's a collection of the lives of the rich, the poor, the spectacular, the
famous and the common, ordinary man trying to make a living. If you live
in this Antebellum city, you learn fast that we protect our history and our homes,
and take pride in what we've fought to preserve. Tom Carney has expanded
upon that and given us a picture of our town--our history--that is worth much
more than a thousand words. Carney has taken a snapshot of the town's
"family" and preserved it for all time. Many people say that if
their house was on fire and they could save only one thing, that they would want
to grab their photographs. Carney has done that for us with this Old
Huntsville Photo Album CD. The CD can be purchased at Shavers
Bookstore or through Old Huntsville magazine.
