How To Delight in Summer

By , About.com Guide

Summer can be a little warm in Huntsville, but with some careful planning it can be delightful, too.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 3 months

Here's How:

  1. Attend the Jazz-N-June Concert at the Monte Sano Amphitheatre.
  2. Plan to attend all the "Concerts in the Park" from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in Big Spring Park. Concerts all summer long.
  3. Don't miss the Daylily & Fern Festival at the Madison County Botanical Gardens in June.
  4. Check out the annual Black Arts Festival on the grounds of WEUP radio station.
  5. Spend the 4th of July watching the City Fireworks Festival at Milton Frank Stadium.
  6. Tour the Burritt Museum & Park for living history in the 1850's & 1900's. Don't miss the 4 hiking trails to explore.
  7. Visit the U.S. Space & Rocket Center for the latest in space technology and a history of the space program. Bonus: it's air-conditioned!

Tips:

  1. Watch the Huntsville Times or the Events Calendar of this site for specific dates for some events.
  2. Make each excursion an event. Allow plenty of time to enjoy the full benefits.
  3. Arrive early whenever possible.
  4. Take a lunch break outdoors as often as possible.
  5. Take advantage of air-conditioning on a shopping excursion in town or at nearby malls.
