Historic Dogwoods:  Huntsville Botanical Garden

This dogwood is over 100 years old.  It was saved by some schoolchildren in 1996 and moved to the Botanical Gardens on Bob Wallace Avenue.

This sign says:  "Historic Dogwood Tree
This dogwood was moved from an old homestead on Old Madison Pike to the Garden on May 17, 1996.  It is approximately 110 years old, measures 23 feet tall and 44 feet around .  The root ball was 16 feet in diameter and weighted 83,000 pounds.  The community response and effort to save this tree reflects caring spirit that resides here."
