Things To Know About Huntsville's Mountains

By Jean Brandau, About.com

There are a lot of things to learn about a city in order to live there successfully. Sometimes it takes years to find out some of the "secrets" and tricks to living a good life. I share tips in every issue of my weekly newsletter.

If you know some good tips, please send them to me via huntsville.guide@about.com . I hope you find something useful to you here and feel more at home in Huntsville.

Tips for Week of May 22, 2003

THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK:

  • Geologically speaking, we are located on the Cumberland Plateau of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Largest Mountain is Monte Sano (Burritt Museum is on Roundtop Mountain)... then Huntsville Mountain...then Green Mountain (these three run in a ridge on the east side of Huntsville)
  • Almost due north is Wade Mountain
  • Northeast is Berry Mountain
  • Rainbow Mountain is west of Huntsville and is the highest point in Madison
  • Keel Mountain is Southeast and is behind Hampton Cove & runs next to the Flint River.
