Huntsville Red Hat Society Clubs

Somerby at Jones Farm Hosts the Ladies in Red Hats

By , About.com Guide

If you've noticed a lot of red or pink hats around Huntsville, it could be you have stumbled upon an unofficial meeting of one of the fifteen Red Hat Society Clubs in Huntsville. The Red Hat Society is a dis-organization whose only purpose is to have fun and enjoy growing older. The Clubs were founded upon the principle of the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph that starts out:

"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple...

With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me..."

The clubs have no rules, no membership fees, and no agendas. Most meet in the local area to eat out once a week or once a month for fun and fellowship. Those over 50 years old wear red hats and purple dresses; those under 50 wear pink hats and lavender dresses.

There are 15 Red Hat Clubs registered in Huntsville:

  • Alabama Renegades

  • Hallelujah Hatters
  • Huntsville Red Hatters
  • Huntsville Scarlet O'Hatters
  • Red Hat Flamingos
  • Red Hat Honeys
  • Red Hat Museum Mamas
  • Red Hat Rockettes
  • Red Hat Rovers
  • Red Ruby and Pink Diamond Sisters
  • Sassy Southern Sisters
  • Sexy Red Chicks
  • Southern Scarlet Hatters
  • The Garnet Gadabouts
  • The Rockin' Rollers of Huntsville

In November, 2002, Somerby at Jones Farm hosted an elegant afternoon tea to approximately 80 ladies from the local Red Hat Clubs.
