Developer Oscar Goldsmith built a modest two story cottage in 1887 and sold it to Dr. William C. Wheeler, who expanded and transformed the house, adding the distinctive Italianate tower and bay window.

The home was in the Walling family for a number of years before being divided into five apartments when it was under the ownership of teacher Vivian Donovan.  Contractor Joe Watson consulted with noted local architect Harvie Jones before beginning an extensive restoration in 1997, completing the work for the Moores, who purchased it in 2000.

A massive oak staircase dominates the foyer.  The original stained glass window at the top of the stairs was replicated for other windows in the house.  With the main house complete, the Moores have turned their attention to the carriage house and the creation of a garden to the rear.
