The first Saturday in May is always a treat for Huntsville residents and visitors.  The Huntsville Pilgrimage Association sponsors the annual historic homes tour on Saturday where private homes are open to the public.  On Sunday of the same weekend, the association hosts the annual Cemetery Stroll in Maple Hill Cemetery.  These two events are worth the wait each year for those who are students of architecture or Huntsville history.  In 2004, there are five homes, one church and two private gardens on the tour.

Dwarf boxwoods trim four triangular beds surrounding a single circular bed in this special cottage garden.  The beds are filled with bright seasonal flowers that accentuate the original smokehouse and primitive miniature church that overlooks the gardens bounty of vegetables and flowers.  A herringbone brick patio surrounds a small pond near the bottom of the unique double staircase.  A century-old pecan tree lends a graceful limb to harbor an old-fashioned board swing.  Fragrant boxwoods, hydrangea bushes, English laurel, and aromatic herbs invite visitors to linger awhile.
