<Tombstone>

Granny..that is too late for my Horton.

<Granny>

True, ADM...I have found quite a bit of stuff on Gov. Horton, who was brother to my Maggie Louella Horton, my great grandmother from my Padgett line.

<huntsvilleADM>

Don, John Hunt was the first settler in Huntsville--do you think he's connected to your LOGAN's?

<huntsvilleADM>

anyone else have famous ancestors?

<Granny>

Tombstone...I go back a good bit further than that with the Horton’s, but not as far as with some of my lines. Email me to check through my Horton files.

<huntsvilleADM>

The nephew of my gggrandfather ran for Gov. of PA and was a U.S. Marshall--his bio really helped me in my search!

<Tombstone>

Let me know about your Thompson’s too.

<Granny>

ADM...I also have a McCord ancestor that was Governor of Tennessee.

<Don>

ADM, I got a racing heart when I first learned that; however, no. He was born in VA, but in 1755...His history was so close to what might have happened; i.e., he left Huntsville about the time my John Hunt came to Bibb. But, one of his sons has a newspaper article about this, which I can send you, if you would like.

<huntsvilleADM>

Why, Granny, you're just a powerful family!

<Granny>

Tombstone, it will be easy to let you know about my Thompson’s...will take about one paragraph!

<huntsvilleADM>

Don--anything about Huntsville is of interest to me.

<CyberLemon>

LOL, sounds like me with my Johnson’s

<huntsvilleADM>

There are lots of HUNT's and they were all over the state.....I have an article about John Hunt on my website here.

<Granny>

ADM...my relatives just liked politics! :-) My grandfather Padgett was a Senator in TN, and also Mayor of his town for many years.

<Tombstone>

I'm impressed Granny. I have a member of the Plunkett clan who was tarred and feathered and killed in Ireland in 1680 and is now a Saint. That is the best I can do.

* Granny

MOTIONS/playful.gif That beats mine interest wise, Tombstone!

<Tombstone>

Granny..What counties are your Tennessee families from.

<huntsvilleADM>

Don, here's the URL for the John Hunt story--you might find it interesting: http://huntsville.about.com/library/bljhunt.htm

<Granny>

Lots and lots of preachers in my family from all different lines!

<MizB>

""They"" say my husbands Warfields were related to guess who?

<Don>

ADM, ...well, I was just about to send you mine on John Hunt...but I bet you sent me the same thing...I will look. thanks

<huntsvilleADM>

My great-grandmother's father was a Baptist minister.....but I haven't had any luck finding any info from the Baptist. The Methodist, on the other hand, were VERY helpful!

<Granny>

MizB...do you really think so?

<MizB>

You know that lady that the King gave up his throne for--I can't prove it yet though

<Tombstone>

As my Olunkett was an Irish Arch Bishop of Dublin, he was obviously not an ancestor but his brother was.

<huntsvilleADM>

Don, go ahead and send it--the one I sent you was from Old Huntsville Magazine. My email is huntsville2@home.com

<Granny>

ADM...no, I don't think that the Baptists kept much historical information. Other religions are better! I've had no luck getting information on my Baptist ministers.

<MizB>

My Grandpa Potter was a Baptist minister among other things

<Tombstone>

Does anyone have information on how to get 1800's information for Masonic Lodges??

<Granny>

MizB...they just had that story on ""At The Auction"" not long ago...auctioned off the scrapbook of their wedding pictures!

<CyberLemon>

ditto here Granny and them traveling did not make it easier

<Granny>

Cyber...I father's parents had 5 children in about 9 years, and each was born in a different place...he was a Baptist minister!

<CyberLemon>

LOL

<huntsvilleADM>

Anyone got some good genealogy tips for overcoming roadblocks?

<Granny>

Tombstone, you might check with the local Masonic Lodge to see. I have never ventured in that direction.

* CyberLemon

MOTIONS/playful.gif don't get into any families with Johnson’s

<Tombstone>

I have a Johnson

<Granny>

Good one, Cyber!!! I have found that just posting queries everywhere you can find to post them, and doing it regularly helps. Sometimes it takes a long time though.

<huntsvilleADM>

I just got some info on Masonic Lodges.....haven't had time to look through it, though. I think they have a website that might help.

<Don>

Well, ADM I cannot paste the address, so I will send it via email...it is more extensive than your, and I think you will enjoy. Perhaps you can share with the others.

<CyberLemon>

I have Benjamin Franklin Johnson and cant get anything on him

<huntsvilleADM>

Thanks, Don--I appreciate it.

<CyberLemon>

ADM, I have been trying to get through to Masons for ancestor info

<Granny>

Where was he from, Cyber?

<CyberLemon>

just a dead end

<CyberLemon>

just a dead end

<huntsvilleADM>

what county was he from, Cyber?

<Don>

Done

<CyberLemon>

we don’t know Granny, family says Bama, but no data

<CyberLemon>

we don’t know which county

<CyberLemon>

he was born ca 1841

<CyberLemon>

died in 1920

<Granny>

ADM...I have also found that writing the Historical Societies in the areas of your interest can prove very helpful.

* MizB

(Plays Sound: applause.wav) Cyber I thought I would have a problem with my Jones' but I posted on Genforum and in 2 days had found the whole family even went to a reunion that year

<Tombstone>

My Grandfather was Nathaniel Green Johnson born 1841 Jones Co. Ga. His father was Hosea Franklin Johnson, Sr.

<CyberLemon>

family legend says he showed up on a doorstep, but no proof

<CyberLemon>

just have about five records for him

<huntsvilleADM>

Wow, MizB--you give us hope!

<CyberLemon>

BFJ got me started in rooting and he tasks me

<Granny>

GenForum has a message board for just about any surname, county, or country that you can think of and they are very active. I've had excellent luck with them!
