Well, I
hadn't checked in for some time... my how things have changed. I'm still
looking for relatives of my great-grandfather, Hardy Holman SA(U)NDERS,
born in 1816; married his only spouse Catherine Anne CLAMPET in 1835
Madison County, Alabama... Hardy was living near Lost Creek in Franklin
County, Tennessee and that was where all but one of their children were
born, before they moved down to Marshall County, Alabama in 185 [msg

9-60 after
the death of Hardy's mother and grandfather. Children: John H. 1836;
George W. 1838; Melvina Jane 1840; Emily or Emaline 1842; Elizabeth 1844
(married a FORD first); William or Wiley 1846; Malinda and/or Sidney
(could have been twins) 1848; Hardy H. 1850, married a GRIGSON lady;
Pinkney 1852, he's the one that was killed by soldiers and Catherine
buried and then baked her poison pies; Andrew Masten 1854 (my grandf [msg

married Eliza Anne HENDREN from Jackson County, Alabama, the daughter of
Sterling Poulter HENDREN and Rebecca LAX; Trissa ""Trissy""
was grandpa's favorite sibling, she was born in 1856 and married a George
THOMAS from around Marshall County; then came Isaac in 1858; and finally,
Stephen SA(U)NDERS in 1860-63, born in Marshall County, Alabama. BTW,
Catherine Anne CLAMPET was the daughter of Mathias Masten CLAMPETT and Re

NICHOLSON who were living in Madison County at the time of Catherine and
Hardy's marriage in 1835 ~ having originally come from Forsyth/Stokes
areas in North Carolina where other SA(U)NDERS relatives were before 1800.
Have I already said too much? <G> Annie [msg complete] |

<Annie> |
One more
thing... When Hardy and Catherine moved to Marshall County, it was near
the HILLIAN (or HILLIN) Store... also, Nimrod SANDRIDGE and his second
spouse, Elizabeth SA(U)NDERS SMITH (widow of Tillman M. SMITH) also moved
with Hardy. Elizabeth was supposedly Hardy's sister. |
|
<Annie> |
Well,
since I've got the floor... <g> Rebecca LAX, born 1852, was living
around Mt. Pisgah in Jackson County, Alabama when she met and married
Sterling HENDREN who was running a little store near Langston... a short
distance from where Hardy and Catherine had moved. |
|
<Annie> |
Continuing...
In the early 1880s, after Andrew Masten SA(U)NDERS was grown... he would
ride his horse along the old Indian Trail from Sauta (sp-?) just below
Scottsboro... on his way to visit relatives in Georgia... passing each
time by the little store that Sterling HENDREN ran... and that's how
Grandpa met Grandma! |
|
<Annie> |
There's
more... may I? Rebecca LAX Hendren is also a brick wall... I know the LAX
families back in Halifax, Virginia were somehow associated with the
surname of HILLIAN ~ or HILLIN. And, a Timothy LAX there in Marshall, I
believe it was, married a Sarah HILLIN. After Timothy LAX died, Sarah
married a JORDON and moved to Texas. Any Clues out there for my Alabama
families? Thanks, and it's good to be back... Marlin@cs.com o [msg

have
nothing to prove this. Because of William Campbell (born about 1750) of |

his daughter and possibly a cousin. Recent information received shows my
1765 William Campbell marrying Elizabeth Crump. My William B. Campbell (b.
1765) lived in New Market area and would appreciate any clues on this
family, as well as any references to the William Campbell who settled
earlier in Madison County, to the south of the New Market [msg continues

already in AR when she married him. The 1920 census states that grandpa's
father was born in AL. Grandpa also had a half brother, Chester, that was

Franklin was my ggggrandfather. He was born in S.C. around 1779 or 1774,
the son of Benjamin Franklin, ( a farmer in S.C. ) who was possibly the
son of one of the Thomas Franklins in the area. Before 1833 Berry married
Martha Hester and they moved to Alabama, where both died. Where did they
move in AL, and where are they buried ? Who are their descendants? Will
appreciate any help. |
