<Granny>

Does anyone know anything about an old Jackson County cemetery that was destroyed by loggers?

<huntsvilleADM>

Martha, it's in Huntsville.....it's the largest and oldest cemetery in the state....I have the book.

<Martha>

Is the book index available somewhere online?

<CyberLemon>

nope, but have read allot about cem destruction in the last few months

<Little>

I’m sorry I don't know what you are all talking about

<Granny>

hailvester...I don't now. My Padgett’s who lived in the Paint Rock Valley area attended the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. I had never heard of the Paint Rock Baptist Church. Eleanor said that almost everyone that attended that church was a relative. Anyone heard of it?

<AnnaEly>

LEMAY, TURNER, WEBB, PAYNE in Lawrence and Etowah counties

<MizB>

Martha, when my g grandfather Noah Rice POTTER left Alabama he settled first in Winnsboro, Wood Co. That is where my Grandfather W.A Potter married Hattie Morgan

<huntsvilleADM>

Little--this is a genealogy chat.....are you in the wrong room?

<wanda338>

also in ESCAMBIA county; a mary louise MABIRE married william PORTER,children,william jr.,and steven mack.

<CyberLemon>

KING, GATEWOOD, EHLERT/ELLIOTT, SWINNEY, COWARD/COWART, Benjamin Franklin JOHNSON in CONECUH, BUTLER, COVINGTON, ESCAMBIA, PIKE, DALE and COFFEE Counties

<Martha>

MizB, did they stay in that area?

<Georgia>

What time period, Wanda?

<hailvester>

Granny, I understand ZACHARY P ADAMS belonged to that church, my uncle.

<MizB>

No they moved to DeLeon in Comanche Co. but Noah's brother John T. Potter stayed or at least he is buried there.

<Little>

What kind of genealogy talk?

<Granny>

hailvester, do you have any idea where the church was located? It seems strange that there would be two Baptist Churches in such a small area, but then I am not that familiar with the area!

<Martha>

MizB, My husband's family is who is from Wood County, so I don't know anyone still in the area.

<CyberLemon>

Alabama genealogy

<hailvester>

Excuse the typos, light isn't greatest.

<Granny>

Way to go, ADM!

<huntsvilleADM>

Oh, well....I think he/she was harmless....but they were interfering.

<wanda338>

mary louise MABIRE PORTER parents lived from 1889-1970,am looking for others birth dates

<huntsvilleADM>

if someone doesn't know what genealogy is.....they're in the wrong room!

<MizB>

Martha do you know when they moved to Wood Co.?

<Granny>

Anyone researching BLACKWELL OR GRAHAM in the Jackson County area?

<huntsvilleADM>

Does anyone have genealogy books or CD's to share lookups?

<Georgia>

The may have been descended from the same Porters.

<huntsvilleADM>

Granny--what info does she have? Does she have the marriage info???

<Granny>

PADGETT, MORGAN, WEBB, HORTON, SNODGRASS, NCIHOLSON, McCORD, THOMPSON, BRIDGES in Jackson, DeKalb and Cherokee Counties.

<Georgia>

My 3rd ggf was Benjamin Porter, born 1807 somewhere in Virginia or Tennessee.

<Martha>

No, but Andrew married there in 1917 so they were there by then. Andrew is my husband’s grandfather, but the family seems to know every little. Married Donnie Deen Pynes.

<huntsvilleADM>

I have Maple Hill Cemetery book for Madison Co. and the Jackson Co. Marriages Books.

<hailvester>

GRANNY I just know he was buried in DeKalb but had also lived in Jackson Co. The Paint Rock Community up above Henagar is the only one I am familiar with.

<Georgia>

He married Ann Amason first, and they had children - at least 2 boys, WILLIAM ARTHUR PORTER and BENJAMIN ADAM PORTER.

<Georgia>

2nd wife Julia Bradley, widow of Liddell.

<wanda338>

I just purchased the CD, Early records of Alabama, Arkansas, and Missippi; but please forgive me I left it at work. I would be glad to look up anything

<Georgia>

They had children - 2 boys JULIUS ADDISION PORTER and DAVID SAMUEL PORTER

<Granny>

ADM, don't know for sure what all she has. I thought that maybe Lydia's name was really Lavicia, but she said that she has it documented that her real name was Lydia, and that she married Peter Blackwell, lived in Jackson County, and that they are both buried in Jackson County. I thought that at some point someone in here was researching Blackwell, so I told her to read through all the transcripts.

<Martha>

Dennis Roberts and Betty Ann McDonald Roberts would probably both be buried in Alabama but don't know where.

<CyberLemon>

wanda, I have that cd on order myself

<Georgia>

Both marriages had other children... still seeking documentation

<hailvester>

I am a BLACKWELL, but mine come from N. GA & NC

<wanda338>

Georgia, I will look thru my book I have on my line that has porters and write it down and email to you

<CyberLemon>

I am looking for Elliott/Ehlert info on it

<Georgia>

I have a picture of the four brothers, as well as confederate service records

<Georgia>

for William and Benjamin

<MizB>

Noah Potter's family moved to Wood Co between 1900 and 1905

<Granny>

hailvester, I don't know where Henagar is! :-( I know Paint Rock Valley in Jackson County is near Holly Tree, not far from Scottsboro...that area.

<Georgia>

Thank you, Wanda. please send to confederatelady@aol.com

<huntsvilleADM>

Granny, I don't see them in the Marriage Books--so they weren't married in Jackson Co....or at least not in the years that the books cover.

<Martha>

MizB, I only live 30 minutes from Wood County, if you need anything looked up.

<Granny>

hailvester...NC may be a possibility...that is where the Padgett’s were from and this Peter Blackwell married Lydia Padgett.

<hailvester>

Henagar is N of Rainsville, E of Pisgah.

* Granny

<huntsvilleADM>

MSB, is this your first time in the Alabama genealogy chat?

<hailvester>

My BLACKWELLS lived around MURPHY, NC but I am not familiar with most of the ancestry, GRANNY. Henagar is above Ft, Payne

<wanda338>

Georgia, I will try to get it sent tonite, but will probably get it all sent to you by tomorrow.

<Martha>

MizB, I am hoping to go to the area cemeteries in the next couple of weeks for that purpose. What cemetery, name, etc.? I'll take it and send it to you.

<Travis>

I found that out already. Unfortunately, while I was trying to log off, I also got kicked off AOL.

* huntsvilleADM
