Ditto Landing:  Parade of Boats
Part 2:  More Boats in Christmas Parade

James White, Salt King of Abingdon, Virginia established a thriving port at this location, incorporated as Whitesburg on December 24, 1824.   Throughout the 19th Century this port remained an important cotton shipping center.  With the advent of railroads, water transportation declined and the town soon disappeared.  Its post office closed in 1905.

A few years after Huntsville was settled, practically all supplies arriving into town came via the river and were picked up at Ditto Landing.

Today Ditto Landing is home to hundreds of boaters and is the recreational jewel of Huntsville residents.  The Kingston Pavilion has two large bar-b-que pits, sits on a majestic hill overlooking the Tennessee River and will seat a total of 350 people. It is located beside the tennis courts and surrounded by acres of soft, grassy lawn.

The Campers Pavilion which has a large roaring fireplace, is located in front of the campground and will seat 120 people.  At Ditto Landing, you can also enjoy tennis, boating, and fishing.  There is also a ballpark for baseball, softball, soccer, Frisbee, or any legal sport that groups of people can safely play on a large grassy playing field and a picnic and playground area.

Ditto Landing is ready for local residents and visitors during all seasons of the year.
