A bronze plaque in his honor hangs in the shelter's lobby. At the bottom of the plaque is a quote from noted English author, John Galsworthy, "The degree of people's civilization is reflected in its attitude toward animals."
Since the shelter opened, over 45,000 animals of every type have passed through its doors and received some kind of assistance. Many have been adopted by North Alabama residents.
