Lee Deal and Sharon Ryan have joined forces to bring Huntsville an "Enchanted Evening" (or afternoon!) of the wonderful music of Rodgers & Hammerstein. This is a delightful show with some of the best in musical talent in the Huntsville area. The gifted ensemble includes Lee Deal (last seen in "The Boys Next Door"), Susan Kenyon (Annelle in "Steel Magnolias"), Beverly Ketchum (Della in "Blue Plate Special" and Mother Abbess in "The Sound of Music"), Dave McConnell (Larry in "Boys in the Band" and our local Mr. Frank Sinatra!), and Elizabeth Wright (Agnes Gooch in "Mame"). Ron Simmons rounded out the group as Musical Director and Pianist.
This is a fun show--not just because it's in the wonderful Renaissance Theatre, which is an experience in itself, but because the singers have gone to great pains to add some pizzazz to their numbers. Unlike BTL's "Fosse," done in the same all-black costume for two hours, these "professionals" have so many costume changes that I lost count and they don't know either! Add some dance steps and scene changes and you will find that you're enjoying yourself as you hear the classics from the Golden Age of the Musical.
Get ready to hear wonderful songs like "Oklahoma," "Climb Every Mountain," "Out of my Dreams," "I Can't Say No," "Some Enchanted Evening" and many more favorites. You might decide you enjoy yourself so much you'll want to go back again.
If you haven't been to The Renaissance Theatre, this may be the show for you. The Renaissance Theatre is located in the historic Lincoln Mill Village Commissary Building that was build in 1928 to accommodate the needs of the Lincoln Mill workers. Now, it seats 85 people for some of the most interesting theatre work going on in Huntsville. For reservations, call 256-536-3434 or 536-3117.
