Huntsville's Holiday Calendar of Events--Part 6

Events are color-coded for your convenience.  Events listed in green require money (that green stuff!); those in red are free--making you as jolly as old St. Nick in his red outfit!  Enjoy this list and take in as many activities as your time, energy and interests will permit.

December 4
Heritage Ringers Holiday Concert -- Trinity United Methodist Church

7:30 p.m.   No admission charge.  256-536-4133
The Heritage Ringers of Huntsville, a non-profit auditioned community concert bell choir, presents its holiday program, which will include carols of the Advent Season, classical favorites and pop tunes.  A nursery will be provided.

December 6
"Every Light a Prayer for Peace"  --Huntsville Madison County Botanical Gardens
4747 Bob Wallace Avenue, Huntsville      256-830-4447
Ceremony begins at 10 a.m.  Admission is free.
Official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony sponsored by the Federated Garden Clubs of Huntsville and Madison County.  This is a tradition that was begun during the Korean Conflict.  This year's program includes local dignitaries, elementary students, clergy representatives and Garden Club members.  

December 6-9
"Holiday Magic on the Mountain Dinners"  -- Burritt on the Mountain
3101 Burritt Drive, Huntsville   256-536-2882    Dinner from 6-9 p.m. 
Reservations are required and cost varies depending on your choice of dining locations. 
This is a popular fundraiser for Burritt Museum.  Special Christmas dinners are held in the Burritt Mansion, old Baptist church,  and log houses at the Living History Park.  Each home is decorated for the 19th Century time period.  Hors d'oeuvres are served in the Trillium Room along with holiday entertainment.

December 8, 9, 10
"The Nutcracker"  -- Huntsville Community Ballet
Von Braun Center Concert Hall
700 Monroe Street, Huntsville
Friday, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, 2 p.m.  Tickets available by calling 539-0961 or Ticketmaster 1-800-277-1700.  Adults: $14, $12, and $8.  Students: discounted $2 off adult price.
The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra will be featured with the ballet.  This traditional holiday production will dazzle the entire family with exciting special effects, spectacular scenery, guest artists and beautiful costumes.  

December 9
Candlelight Christmas Memorial -- Maple Hill Cemetery
202 Maple Hill Drive, Huntsville    256-723-8627
6-9 p.m.  No admission charge
Annual memorial sponsored by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  The ceremony will honor Confederate veterans.  Luminaries and an honor guard will be placed at the Site of the Unknown Confederate Veterans' Graves.
