Huntsville Botanical Garden

On June 21 & 22, 2003 from 1-6 pm, the Huntsville Botanical Garden will feature a fundraiser designed to thrill local garden enthusiasts.  Three private town gardens in South Huntsville and three private country gardens in Hazel Green will be open to the public.  I've previewed the gardens for you, but I urge everyone to get out on Saturday and Sunday and explore for themselves.  Even though a picture is worth a thousand words.....these pictures really don't do these gardens justice--you really need to see them for yourself!

Tony & Susie Thompson, 104 Perdido Street, Hazel Green

Like many folks with green thumbs, Tony and Susie have given their garden its own distinctive name.  "Precious Petals" lives up to its name by  being an official Show Garden of the American Hemerocallis Society--which, for those of us 'not in the know,' are daylilies.  Each spectacular plant is lovingly labeled.  Beyond the explosion of color is a pretty shaded area bordered by a well-crafted stone wall.  A large pond, surrounded by cannas, elephant ears and two expressive weeping blue atlas cedars, is filled with friendly, colorful Koi which follow around the pool!  Susie has been working on this garden for about six years and has many more plans for it.
