Great place. Don't see what everyone is complaining about. I paid 12 dollars for two people at lunch. While I could have paid less at lets say Wendys or McDonalds I was much more satisfied with the menu at sister Gooch, both from a taste standpoint and a health standpoint. BTW, I almost always order water so that does make a difference. I like soda, but I just have a problem paying 1.5 dollars for it, which is an average restaurant price. I also dont like to drink a sandwich worth of calories while eating a sandwich.
The people complaining that the food is more expensive than at other fine restaurants really shouldn't count places like Ruby Tuesday's or Olive Garden. These places are large franchises that pre-make most of their food. I like both Rubys and the Olive Garden, but they are a different kind of restaurant, and at least as far as the Olive Garden goes, similarly expensive as Sister Gooch. While the sandwiches made at Sister Gooch were pre-made earlier in the day at least they were not frozen just hours before my arrival. That reminds me of an experience at a local restaurant where my food was still frozen as if it were a TV dinner (the veggies, pasta, and chicken were frozen in the middle, but from the outside they looked fine, i.e. the plate had been prepared, frozen, then nuked)
I went to Sister Gooch's for dinner and spent 34 dollars plus tip for two people and that included a dessert and an appetizer. At Rosie's (great place and atmosphere) we usually spend 25 but that does not include desert or an appetizer. The one time that we went all out at Rosie's we spent 40 dollars plus tip.
Go to Sister Gooch at least once. As a Greek the bread is the most European in the Huntsville area. The Biergarten is second best now... It is the best Euro-style restaurant in North Alabama bar none. BTW my friend Jerome, from Nantes (Brittany) France, says its the best restaurant he has been to since moving here from San Jose (CA) 2 years ago. (Well he hasn't been to Pauli's yet!!! But then again if you asked me the two tie.)
One final note to those who hate the atmosphere because it is to bustling and loud... You might as well not go anywhere these days if loud confusion bothers you. I find myself yelling at every restaurant I go to with a few exceptions and Sister Gooch is one of them. I will concede that it can get loud near the deli/counter, but in the various eating halls it is very quite.
