On Saturday, September 21, 2002, The Burritt Museum Guild will hold their first Monte Sano Mountain Homes Tour. Six homes and one garden are featured on the tour. For tickets, call 256-536-2882. The front facade of the Wallace's picturesque English cottage serves as the backdrop for the opening scene of National Public Television's popular children's show, Grandfather Reads.
Nestled on a wooded lot, the house was built in the late 1940's as part of the Mountain Heights development. Built of snadstone quarried on Monte Sano, the charming cottage invites you in through a handsome arched door with wrought iron embellishments. Once inside, the vintage tongue and groove heart pine paneling, three stone fireplaces, original pine cabinets, and oak floors set a warm and welcoming mood.
