Tips, Tricks and Secrets to Living in
Huntsville
|
 |
|
There are a lot of things to learn about a city in order to live there
successfully. Sometimes it takes years to find out some of the
"secrets" and tricks to living a good life. I share tips in
every issue of my free weekly
email newsletter.
If you know some good tips,
please send them to me via email. I
hope you find something useful to you here and feel more at home in Huntsville.
Tips for Week of January 7,
2005
THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK:
-
Coffee
Tree Books & Brew has just opened at 7900 Bailey Cove Road
(across from Grissom High School). The bookstore bookstore buys, sells, and
trades peviously owned books and is open now. The specialty coffee shop will
be open by the end of the month and is now hiring.
-
801
Franklin has a new Executive Chef Michael Kroneker, who has spent
time in the kitchen with culinary greats such as Wolfgang
Puck and the Culinary Olympic Team.
-
Starting
in March, Alabama will issue a new driver's
license made from a high-tech composite material. It's not just
laminated paper anymore. It has more than 20 security features, some as
simple as overlapping digital symbols (making it harder to cut and paste)
and others invisible to the naked eye. It is a felony to make a fake
driver's license.
-
If
you've noticed more state flags, there's a reason: In 2004, a state law
started requiring state-funded public buildings to fly the Alabama
flag. The Alabama state flag, adopted Feb. 16, 1895, is the only
state flag that is exactly square and the red cross is known as a saltire or
the cross of St. Andrew. It is based upon the Confederate Battle flag.
-
During
the flu season, don't forget to use Huntsville
Hospital's RN4U health information and referral service. The call is
free: 265-RN4U (7648).
