There are a lot of things to learn about a city in order to live there successfully.  Sometimes it takes years to find out some of the "secrets" and tricks to living a good life.  I share tips in every issue of my free weekly email newsletter

If you know some good tips, please send them to me via email. I hope you find something useful to you here and feel more at home in Huntsville.

Tips for Week of January 27, 2005

THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK:

  • To put it bluntly: "Alabama has a bunch of fat people in it!" If you want to change that, here's your opportunity. The Biggest Loser TV Show is looking for GROUPS who want to lose weight as a team and YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO LEAVE THE COMFORTS OF YOUR OWN HOME OR JOB. Application deadline is February 14th.

  •  Lighthouse Christian Ministries is in need of women's coats, canned & dry goods or gift cards from Wal-Mart and grocery stores. If you can help, call 535-0850 or email Darlene

  • Having trouble bathing your dog? I just noticed that there's a dog wash at the Dixie Car Wash on Whitesburg Drive (across from Lily Flagg Hardware). They have a heated, enclosed area with a ramp and platform so you can wash your dog without bending over a tub. Dog shampoo, flea treatment, dry off clothes and dog treats available.

  • The new Hampton Cove Wal-Mart is now open! The store front is green in order to fit in better with the surrounding Hampton Cove community.

  • The Huntsville International Airport is sponsoring their Huntsville Hot Ticket Rewards program now through July 18, 2005. Sign up to receive weekly emails on low fares (this week: Washington DC for $108 or New York for $159) and earn reward points for prizes when you visit the website.

  • Kiwanis Club of Huntsville is now selling their Pancake Day Tickets for $4 in advance, $5 at the door. The pancakes will be served at the new Huntsville High School Cafeteria (get a tour!) on Saturday, March 5 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For tickets, call Ira Jones at 256-539-8116 or see any Kiwanis Club member.
