There are a lot of things to learn about a city in order to live there
successfully. Sometimes it takes years to find out some of the
"secrets" and tricks to living a good life. I share tips in
every issue of my weekly
newsletter.
If you know some good tips,
please send them to me via email. I
hope you find something useful to you here and feel more at home in Huntsville.
Tips for Week of June 24,
2004
THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK:
-
On
a recent expedition in Montana, Huntsville author Homer Hickam discovered
what may be a new species of Tyrannosaurus Rex. Jack Horner, Montana's state
paleontologist, has informally named her the H-Rex in Homer's honor. For
more info on this and Homer's advice to writers, see Homer
Hickam website.
-
Alabama
will soon become one of the first states in the nation to require all of its
nursing homes to have full sprinkler systems throughout each building. The
other two states working on this are Tennessee & Connecticut.
-
Recently
highlighted on Southern Living Presents, Petals
from the Past in Jemison, Alabama specializes in antique roses,
heirloom shrubs and hard to find perennial flowers and herbs. This Saturday
June 26th, from 7am to 2pm they have their Annual Greenhouse Sale.
-
Want
to be part of a music video? Join the fun at Huntsville Speedway this
Friday, June 25th as Country Mile, on their "Feel the Thunder"
Tour, will be filming a country music video live: before, during and after
the Southern All-Star races. More info on the Events Calendar.
-
A
new store, Gifford Street Fabrics, at Piedmont Point on Whitesburg Drive,
has opened. It features one-yard samples that represent thousands of yards
of fabric in stock in their Chattanooga warehouse. Orders shipped free to
the store usually within 24-48 hours
